Halt!!

There's been a slight demand for images of the Halter dresses, so here they are.
They are not the greatest shots, but they should give you an idea of how they look in each batik.
There are some images throughout the blog that show them being worn, so have a look for those as well.

Baggy trousers...

I have that great old 'Madness' song going through my head now.... Baggy Trousers.. Baggy Trousers...
It's wonderful now that Harper is walking because you can really see how gorgeous the baggy pants look on the little ones. So sweet! Lucien is still crawling around, and the pants are great for the knee movement.

Trouble

Having tumbled out of her pram and looking a little worse for wear (not on my watch!) Harper still looks completely adorable in her V-neck in the Blue on Blue batik.

It might be time to trim that mullet haircut though......

Lucian

Perfection!
Petit Batik pants and a navy singlet.
Summer. Sure is!

Pip

Pip looks like she's ready for some Summer racing.
In hot weather (it's, what, 41 degrees today?) this is the perfect dress.
These Halter's are so cool, and this one in the Fish and Flowers batik is really very pretty.
Lovely.

Amelie

Sigh.
Another French Australian in chic  Petit Batik.
Amelie, you are beautiful.

kindy batik

I know that when I collect my two girls from kindy this afternoon they will look every bit as neat as when I dropped them off.

Well...... looks can be slightly deceiving. Such is the beauty of batik - you can't actually see the paint, the food spills, the sunscreen, the mess that is daycare.
Brilliant!

found photos

I found these photos while cleaning up the computer files.
They were taken in May 2010 for Kris' 60th at Little Bay.
It was a beautiful day.

rosie posie batik

Harper in Sunday's hand-me-down Rosie Posie sets.

I couldn't get a good image showing the matching bloomers, but she looks adorable.

I cannot believe she turns One next week.

I have a few of these sets available in the two batiks pictured below.

Clearing out the cupboards....again

It's funny to think that Sunday has grown out of all of these beautiful batik dresses from my first buying trip. The baby dresses were just adorable. I must arrange to get some more....
Harper will be wearing them soon enough so they will have a second life, which is lovely.

Rain, rain, stay away

What great weather for bloomers! Harper wore her Big Blue Butterfly Bloomers teamed with a V-Neck in rich patchwork to a party today. They were great for all the crawling she did on the grass in the sunshine.

Lets hope the weather holds up! I'll be at the Bondi Markets tomorrow should the rain stay away.
Come and say hello!

Note to self - I must weed the pavers in the garden.......

Lost batik on a rainy day

In preparing and packing for a market stall at Bondi I found some of my batik pieces that I thought had sold out already - these baggy pants for starters... I also discovered a batik dress that I bought for myself that I completely forgot I had. Proof and testament to my hectic life.

Unfortunately, in the end there was no market stall set up today due to the rain and wind that is part of the ever unpredictable nature of Spring.

Fit for the Prince and Princess

c.1925 Photographer Unknown

Leo Haks is a celebrated collector of historical photographs, among other things, who over a thirty year period amassed an astonishing collection of imagery taken throughout Indonesia by a number of photographers (many unknown) during the time of Dutch colonial rule. The National Gallery of Australia has been fortunate enough to become guardians of this collection - Leo donated his collection some time in 2007. Thanks Leo. I will certainly have to make the trip to Canberra to look at the beautiful pictures to see first hand the clothes being worn in their most traditional and celebrated fashion by children and adults. I love the baggy pants above, and the little girl in the image below is so beautiful. I'll also have to get my hands on a copy of the book Batik: From the Courts of Java and Sumatra as it features some of the photographs from the collection, and some good reading by the look of it. That should keep me occupied while I wait for the rest of my order......

Not so petit

I am still waiting for the rest of my order of children's  Relax Shirts, Smoks and Easy Tops to arrive... sigh...

In the mean time I am dressing myself in the odd bit of batik - not so petit after all! A few months ago I rummaged through a suitcase of wares for sale at the Rozelle Markets and found a beautiful piece of 1960's batik right at the bottom of the pile. The seller tells me he'd bought it in 1971 when traveling in Indonesia. The remnant then became mine for the grand sum of $5. My year nine school Textiles and Design lessons have come in handy once again - I whipped up this dress in a few hours the other day (based on a Ginger & Smart dress my friend owns) and I will be baring my shoulders in it as soon as the warm weather returns.

Night Batik

Night time Flowers.
This is a beautiful batik. It's quite
sophisticated and bold.
I'm looking forward to dressing Sunday
in the Halter dress in this fabric.
Relax Tops and Smoks will be available in it soon.

On your bike

Why is it that I can find a perfect linen skirt for Sunday, but I can't find one for me? I love linen.
I bought this OUCH skirt the other day and it works really well with the Smok Top.
In fact there are a few plain singlets and tops in
their range that team well with the batik.
Lets go riding!
